چکیده

Ann Saudi Med 2006;26(4):315-317 Postoperative intestinal obstruction (POI) is a well-recognized complication usually related to peritoneal adhesions. It is an uncommon and frequently overlooked cause of intestinal obstruction and accounts for 5% to 10% of postoperative ileus in children.1 The actual incidence of postoperative intussusception following laparotomy is low and varies from 0.01 to 0.25%.1-4 Following an appendectomy, the inverted appendicular stump5 could be the leading point of cecocolic intussusception, but more often a predisposing lesion is not found, particularly in Ileocecal intussusception.5,6

Stump appendicitis with lipohyperplasia of the ileocecal valve: Report of a case

A case report of recurrent appendicitis, 40 years after appendectomy is presented. In the present case, we failed to diagnose stump appendicitis preoperatively due to the existence of the lipohyperplasia of the ileocecal valve which showed features of ileocolic intussusception causing right lower abdominal pain and nausea. Inflammation of the appendiceal stump after appendectomy is a rare compl...

Ileocecal Intussusception in the Adult Population: Case Series of Two Patients

BACKGROUND Intussusception is a condition found primarily in the pediatric population. In the adult population, however, intussusception is usually due to a pathological process, with a higher risk of bowel obstruction, vascular compromise, inflammatory changes, ischemia, and necrosis. Radiographic and sonographic evidence can aid in the diagnosis. Surgical intervention involving resection of a...

Ileocecal Intussusception with Histomorphological Features of Inflammatory Neuropathy in Adenovirus Infection

The pathophysiological mechanisms for ileocecal intussusception in children with adenovirus infection are not well characterized. Here we demonstrate coincidence of adenovirus infection and inflammatory neuropathy of myenteric plexus in two children with ileocecal intussusception. Inflammatory neuropathy, an unspecific morphological feature which is found in peristalsis disorders, was morpholog...

Ileocecal Intussusception due to a Lipoma in an Adult

While intestinal tumors are rare, small intestinal lipomas are even more uncommon benign neoplasms. They are usually asymptomatic, but lipomas larger than 2 cm may become symptomatic due to obstruction, bleeding, or intussusception. In this paper, US and CT findings of a lipoma located in the terminal ileum and causing ileocecal intussusception were discussed. We report a case of small bowel li...
